The Snake Road Field Checklist | Track the Snakes You Find
Can you find all 23 snake species known from Snake Road? (Are there even 23, or is the Scarletsnake a myth?)
Whether you're making your very first visit or you've been returning for years, keeping a checklist adds another layer of excitement to every hike. Some species are seen regularly, while others require patience, experience, and a little luck.
Download the checklist, print it at home, or keep track of your sightings as you explore one of North America's premier reptile destinations.
The 23? Species

Tips for Success
- Visit during the spring or fall migrations.
- Start between 10am and noon when possible. Time is your friend!
- Walk slowly and scan both the road and the vegetation.
- Look carefully—many snakes blend perfectly into their surroundings.
- Respect every animal by observing without disturbing it.
Remember: Some days produce dozens (hundreds!) of sightings. Other days produce only a few. That's part of what makes every visit unique.
Make Your Checklist Part of the Adventure
Take your checklist with you—or wear it.
Our Snake Road Field Guide T-Shirt transforms the checklist into a wearable keepsake. Mark each species with a permanent marker as you find it and create a one-of-a-kind record of your adventures.
Help Protect Snake Road
