When to Visit
Snake Road is open to vehicle traffic for much of the year but closes seasonally during the spring and fall migrations to protect reptiles and amphibians crossing between the limestone bluffs and the wetlands below.
Wildlife activity varies considerably depending on weather conditions, time of day, and season. Some visits produce dozens of sightings, while others may produce only a handful. Every trip is different.

Wildlife Etiquette
Snake Road is famous because of its wildlife. Help keep it that way.

- Stay on designated roads and trails where appropriate.

Safety
Many Snake Road species are harmless, but venomous snakes—including cottonmouths, copperheads, and timber rattlesnakes—also call the area home.
Watch where you place your hands and feet, remain aware of your surroundings, and give every snake plenty of space. Admire them through your camera lens rather than attempting to interact with them.
